Green Hell

I don't know about you, but I never feel done with a build. It seems there is always something that can be done better. Trial & error are a big part of it. Making shit work that wasn't made for your bike is another. I was having a problem with my oil tank stays coming apart. These are the "heavy duty" ones with the welded wire that runs through the rubber. My oil tank mounts with 2 on top and one in the rear, fine for an Evo or rubbermount, not so great for a hot cammed high compression solid mount Ironhead vibration machine like my bike "Green Hell". I was getting about 700mi out of them. So I took 3 Barnett clutch springs I had laying around & cut them down a bit. With some red locktite and grade 8 socket head bolts the experiment is on. I've already got about 400mi on them without any loosening. I was also tired of the hose I had running from my cam chest vent. No matter where I routed it, I ended up with some oil spray. I decided a filter would be best, it will still vent to the atmosphere, but keep the mess in. When it does start dripping(hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it will sooner or later) I can just replace it.

  1. You're right Loaf, never done. Especially with a temperamental old Ironhead. Nice idea with the springs. Maybe I should try that with my taillight.
